The Bare Project and Higsad Alool Weavers - Common Threads
Workshop
Join us to weave a front room in the middle of Hillsborough Park using weaving techniques from all over the world! We’ll be working with international weavers and artists to question what kind of city we want to pass on to our daughters, weave and take up space together.

Romano Jilo Dance Group
Dance
Romano Jilo Dance Group performs traditional Romani dance sequences in small groups.  The Romani dance routines are performed to traditional Roma music originating from Slovakia, Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary and Spain.  The performers wear traditional costumes reflecting Roma culture.  The dances are very energetic, vibrant and colourful.

Ukrainian School Band (USB) - From Heart to Heart
Music
Ukrainian School Band (USB) has emerged as a heartwarming initiative in Nottingham, UK, in response to the aftermath of war, when a wave of Ukrainian children sought refuge in the area. These young souls needed a safe space to express their emotions, share their experiences, and forge new friendships with peers facing similar circumstances.

  • RivelinCo is a neighbourhood arts centre without walls, proudly based in Hillsborough and working across North Sheffield. ‘Without walls’ means our creative programme takes place in public and community spaces like parks, community centres, high streets, car parks, empty shops, libraries, schools, and care homes – temporarily transforming them into theatres, cinemas, galleries, workshops, classrooms and forums.

  • Mavky is a Ukrainian folk band that embodies a deep respect for traditional music and culture. Blending folk songs, lively dances, and authentic instruments, the band creates a unique atmosphere that immerses audiences in the richness of Ukrainian heritage.

The importance of Mavky lies in their dedication to preserving and promoting Ukrainian traditions for new generations. They don’t just perform music; they transmit the emotions embedded in traditional songs, fostering a strong connection to history and cultural identity. The band serves as a bridge between the past and the present, blending age-old traditions with contemporary elements, making Ukrainian music both accessible and engaging for a wider audience.

Moreover, Mavky actively engages with their audience, creating a sense of unity that allows everyone to become part of the cultural experience. Their performances are more than just concerts—they are true celebrations of the Ukrainian spirit, inspiring a deep appreciation for one’s roots and heritage.

  • Romano Jilo was established in 2010 by the local Slovak Roma Community in Sheffield to promote Romani dance, provide active exercise for all children, promote pride in Roma culture and enhance community cohesion in Sheffield. Romano Jilo is organised by local Roma volunteers.

  • The Bare Project is an artist-led company making performance and interactive artworks. Our work is designed to encourage audiences and participants to model alternative futures, and so are like laboratories or playgrounds. Our work is marked by an urgency for conversations about what comes next—conversations that acknowledge that the future weighs heavy, but that it doesn’t exist yet.

    Audience Member about Common Threads
“Thank you so much for bringing Common Threads to the Moor. You definitely succeeded in creating “softness” in the city, a space I was really happy to hang out in all day with my baby, even breastfeed in the middle of the high street. He was engaged and entertained by the life of the city around us while feeling safe and brave enough to interact with it from that little cocoon in progress. And it was a space I felt comfortable being in as a mum with my baby whilst also being able to join in with creative conversation and activity, I really can't think of anywhere else those two things have been brought together since I've been in search of safe and welcoming spaces to hang out in as a new mum but also avenues to keep my creativity going as an artist. And even just the act of being there, bringing along our life experience, felt like a contribution which I think is the sign of a well balanced project. It really gave me what I need!” (Audience member)
