Weaving Land Justice
Weaving Land Justice / Peaks of Colour
22 June | Time: 10:30 | Venue: Flying Horse Lawn, Rivelin
ABOUT THE SHOW
Peaks of Colour's Soma Sessions are monthly spaces that invite global majority communities to deepen their connection with themselves, each other and the land. A space of repetition (Foluke Taylor) as Black Feminist practice and rehearsal (Ruth Wilson Gilmore) as abolitionist priority, Soma Sessions support us to build capacity and resilience for a future in which the boundaries between our human bodies and more-than-human landscapes are decomposed.
Join us for our June Soma Session: Weaving Land Justice, in collaboration with founder of Tatreez Revival, Muna El-Zeet.
In Palestine, ecocide and land displacement is being weaponised as a tool of genocide against indigenous peoples, meanwhile, in the Peak District, private land ownership and lack of access to green spaces is resulting in the isolation of global majority communities in the Peak District and wider UK context.
In ‘Weaving Land Justice’ Muna will guide us from Palestine to the Peak District, weaving local and global solidarities across our intersecting fights for land justice, through tatreez, the art of Palestinian embroidery. We will explore the deep connection between nature, land and the motifs and patterns within tatreez, uncovering how palestinian embroidery can tell stories of history, identity, and resistance.
Please note: This session is for People of Colour only.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Peaks of Colour is a Peak District-based nature for healing grassroots community group, by and for people of colour. Through our monthly Soma Sessions and seasonal walkshops, we explore alternative routes to healing and justice for those with a lived experience of gendered and racialised trauma.
Joining us on this months Soma Sessions is Muna El-Zeet. Muna is the founder of Tatreez Revival, created in an effort to preserve and celebrate the art of Palestinian embroidery, known as tatreez. Through workshops, tatreez kits, and an online community for artists and learners, Tatreez Revival strives to keep this traditional art form alive and accessible for future generations as well as foster a sense of connection and community among tatreez enthusiasts.
Produced in associations with Tatreez Revival.
