Cambodia: Legacies of Conflict and Resilience

Dayanny So, Charles Fox, Komarine Romdenh-Romluc

25 June | Time: 19:30 | Venue: Nomad Maison

ABOUT THE SHOW

2025 marks 50 years since the fall of Phnom Penh to the Khmer Rouge, and the start of the Cambodian genocide. This event brings together three artists - Dayanny So, Charles Fox, and Komarine Romdenh-Romluc – whose work engages with personal legacies of the conflict from different perspectives, and the rebuilding of cultural identity. Together, they will reflect on experiences of the conflict and reckoning with its aftermath, migration, art as storytelling and remembrance, diaspora identity and belonging. Audience members of all ages are also invited to join in a workshop led by Dayanny So, using Cambodian textiles.

  • Dayanny So is a Cambodian diaspora artist, who draws upon his personal experiences of surviving the Khmer Rouge regime. He came to the UK at the age of 25 as a refugee. Dayanny’s experiences shape an artistic process that involves diverse media and making activities.

Charles Fox is a photographer and researcher working on the legacies of conflict and genocide, with a particular focus on Cambodia. Much of his work is collaborative, resulting from long-standing dialogue with individual Cambodians.

Komarine Romdenh-Romluc is a second-generation British-Khmer academic and DJ. Her work uses philosophy and sound to explore questions of belonging, identity and fractured relationships to a homeland. Kom’s father came to the UK in 1977. Despite living and working in mainland Europe for many years before then, the political turmoil rendered him sans papiers, and he arrived in England as a refugee.
