MMF'2020
The Covid-19 pandemic put an abrupt stop to all events across the country. All preparation for the festival therefore had to be paused to allow our communities to adjust to the grave situation laid before the country.
As the country shifted and tried to find new ways to experience arts and culture, the festival team decided to adapt its programme to an online and digital festival, which saw a huge overhaul of programming and curatorial decision making.
This however gave the festival an opportunity to connect globally with audience members from around the world for the first time and for communities to find companionship and combat the loneliness brought about by the pandemic.
The festival commissioned inspiring dance and storytelling workshops through some of the country’s best talent notably Si Rawlinson and Alim Kamara. There was also a wonderful poetry read and in conversation with poet/author Suhaiymah Manzoor Khan and her new work Postcolonial Banter. To add to this was a musical showcase Live from the Incubator' curated by Otis Mensah featuring K.Zia, Lucy DK and Lando Chill (streaming from LA). Capping off the immersive fun was a theatrical Around the World in 80 days by Paperfinch Theatre.
In what were some of the most tragic and grave of times the festival put together a week of events that gave people something to smile about
