Rapid Response is a collaboration between Ark Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University, Migration Matters Festival and Sheffield Theatres.
It was initiated in 2023 to support artists in the development of new theatre work that addresses the themes of climate and migration.
This year, we've challenged our artists to respond to the question: '… What does “Our Home” mean to you?".
Join us at The Hubs, Sheffield Hallam University, for an exciting evening of rapid response scratch performances.
This will feature four artists who applied through our open callout. Learn more about them and their work below:
CJ Simon presents Our Planet Now: Belonging and Ownership
A poetic multi-media exploration of what it means to belong in a climate-destroyed world obsessed with ownership
CJ Simon is a theatre-maker and academic researcher whose work tells inventive and impactful human stories.
His award-winning playwriting and spoken-word artistry has been performed at the Southwark Playhouse, Birmingham Hippodrome, the Belgrade Theatre, and on BBC Radio.
He is currently completing a PhD in the Political Psychology of Culture and Art, whilst creating work through his new theatre company Fire and Folie.
Grace Waga Glevey presents Birdsong playback
Monologue: the lone voice of a young woman facing the climate catastrophe picks up binoculars to look at the birds.

Grace Waga Glevey is a theatre and telly maker from Humberside with a love of comedy and nature.
She recently founded Humberside production company Hani Projects, whose debut show ‘Delulu’ was awarded a residency with Sheffield Theatres.
Grace is currently under commission for Middle Child’s Fresh Ink Festival, July 2024, with her play ‘Jack and Gill’.
Noor Sobka presents Nutella and Harissa
Self Hatred, Harrisa and Home served with a generous helping of unhinged. A fun but poignant piece exploring identity, self hatred and family dynamics.

Noor Sobka is a Northern, North African Theatre Maker with a particular interest in comedy and creating work which represents individuals from North Africa and the Global Majority.
Beth Keller - Three States of Water
This performance explores our internal struggles as an individual and as a society surrounding the climate crisis through a casual conversation between three characters.

Beth Keller is a young artist from Glasgow, living in Sheffield since 2021.
She said: ‘I have always been driven by climate change and the injustices surrounding it. I also enjoy theatre for the excitement of creative teamwork and expressing captivating stories. I am a drama facilitator and co-director of Three Compost Bins, a theatre company challenging societal narratives.’
About Ark Sheffield
Ark Sheffield is a citywide conversation about the climate crisis. It was launched with Sheffield Hallam University and partners in 2022 for Sheffield Theatres' Together in the City.
