Home Away

Ibitayo ‘Tsaint’ Ibikunle aka The Lazy Filmmaker, curated by Rumbi Tauro

27 June | Time: 18:00 | Venue: Soft Ground

ABOUT THE EVENT

Home Away is a three part docu-series that digs beneath the surface of migration.

What happens when everything you were—your career, your culture, your confidence—gets left at the border? Through intimate stories, including my own, we uncover the silent struggles of starting over, the ache of not belonging, and the hidden strength in rebuilding.

From lost dreams to found family, Home Away explores how migrants fight to make a life and a home in a place that wasn’t built for them.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ibitayo "Tsaint" Ibikunle is a filmmaker, colorist, and storyteller whose work explores the complexities of identity, migration, and social injustice. Tsaint's filmmaking centers on untold stories of marginalized communities, challenging dominant narratives and highlighting themes of discrimination, inequality, and resilience in the face of adversity. His critically acclaimed, award-winning project Disciples explores the cult of TB Joshua, capturing the powerful dynamics of belief and control. He has worked with prestigious media outlets like the BBC and Africa Eye Investigative Unit, creating films that address pressing social issues such as race, class, and migration.

In addition to his filmmaking, Tsaint runs The Lazy Filmmaker, a YouTube platform where he shares his expertise in cinematography, lighting, and color grading. He focuses on the essential but often overlooked topic of filming and lighting dark-skinned individuals, addressing a significant knowledge gap in the industry. Through his channel, Tsaint empowers filmmakers to authentically represent diverse skin tones, ensuring fair and accurate portrayals in visual media. His passion for teaching and advocating for better representation in filmmaking is a key part of his ongoing mission.

Tsaint’s latest project, Home Away, is a three-part docu-series that dives deep into the struggles of migration. Drawing from his personal experience, the series examines the challenges of starting over in a foreign country, the ache of not belonging, and the silent strength in rebuilding a life from scratch. Home Away explores the silent and often hidden narratives of migration, providing a voice to those fighting for a sense of home in a world that isn’t built for them.
