Free, Not Free - A Collaborative Photography Exhibition
This series of portraits and accompanying verbatim reflections was co-created with LGBTQIA+ people seeking asylum and living in South Yorkshire. The exhibition aims to challenge popular misconceptions and to discover and claim new channels for self-representation, such that people's voices can be heard above the hostile mainstream.
The imagery was made in collaboration, often using techniques that obscure people's identities, and explores partial status at a moment in time, the experience of forced migration and the feeling of life being on hold. Perhaps freedom feels almost within reach, yet everything remains somehow out of control.
