African Gnawa: chant, rhythms & dance
Mohamed Errebbaa
22 June | 13:00 - 14:30 | Venue: Utopia Theatre
The deep trance power of the ancient Moroccan Gnawa repertoire connects elements of the Arab music of the North and the music of sub-Saharan Africa with Sufi mysticism.
Mohamed is an energetic & engaging workshop leader who has worked with notable organisations such as SOAS, Plymouth’s Barbican Theatre & DAN (Diverse Artists Network).
The workshops educate on Gnawa traditions, the music, rhythms & rituals. In this workshop participants will be able to join in on call & response singing, clapping patterns & 6/8 rhythms with the krakebs (metal castanets) that are provided. All are welcome.
You can see Mohamed perform with his band Tagna Groove at the Migration Matters Festival closing party.
